Burrard Bridge area development plans

  While on the Vancouver Sun website I read an article about the Squamish First Nations band that has come up with a multimillion development plan for the land at the south end of the Burrard Street bridge, this over ambitious plan would see the removal of a large amount of green space in the area, a huge change to the cities skyline plus we would see traffic patterns change in an area that already see's way to much traffic.  The multimillion dollar development would bring the addition of multiple commercial and residential towers being as high as 35 stories, these towers would be built on land owned by the band that was originally an old fishing village. This land is regulated by the Federal government which means the band will NOT have to follow city rules on building height or density.  The comment from Mayor Gregor Robertson's office was that this project is "very ambitious."  The Squamish First Nations band will be providing more details on the project by the end of the year and the City of Vancouver has encouraged them to work with the city and community groups that will be affected by the development.
