New supportive housing projects announced for Vancouver

  There was a great announcement today with regards to the homelessness in Vancouver.  Today Premier Gordon Campbell announced a program to build 1006 new supportive housing unit in Vancouver at a cost of $225 million dollars, $205 million will come from the province and $20 million from the the Streetohome Foundation.  This money will go toward the building of 8 new housing projects to add to the 6 projects already announced this year bring the total to 14 developments and a total of 1575 new units for the city of Vancouver.  This is just a start to putting a dent in the homelessness situation that continues to grow in the city of Vancouver mild climate.  Here is a list of the new projects and there locations.

 

The eight new housing projects in Vancouver:

Address: 7th and Fir

Number of apartments: 62

Non-Profit Housing Society: Katherine Sanford Housing Society/Motivation, Power and Achievement Society

Estimated Project Capital Cost: $13.4 million

Address: 1233 - 1251 Howe

Number of apartments: 110

Non-Profit Housing Society: McLaren Housing Society

Estimated Project Capital Cost: $22.3 million

Address: 215 W. 2nd

Number of apartments: 147

Non-Profit Housing Society: Katherine Sanford Housing Society/RainCity Housing and Support Society

Estimated Project Capital Cost: $34.2 million

Address: 1134 Burrard

Number of apartments: 141

Non-Profit Housing Society: Kettle Friendship Society/Family Services of Greater Vancouver

Estimated Project Capital Cost: $30.4 million

Address: 590 Alexander St.

Number of apartments: 139

Non-Profit Housing Society: PHS Community Services Society

Estimated Project Capital Cost: $31.2 million

Address: 675 E. Broadway

Number of apartments: 127

Non-Profit Housing Society: Vancouver Native Housing Society/Broadway Youth Resources Centre

Estimated Project Capital Cost: $28.3 million

Estimated Project Capital Cost: $34.6 million
