Much needed rental building maybe coming to the West End

It was announced yesterday via Vancitybuzz.com that there is a new proposal for a 22 story rental building for the West End of Vancouver and it will include a Church as its main occupant, this is out of the norm for Vancouver as we continue to see new building spring up with major grocery stores, retail, commercial and even high end hotels in them.  This proposal is set for the location at 1155 Thurlow Street and is being spearheaded by the Central Presbyterian Church which is the current owners of the land.  The Church hopes to expand Church operations and build a larger facility which is to include art and community spaces for the West End.

The proposal is designed by Henriquez Partners Architects and includes:

  • floor space ratio (FSR) of 9.45;
  • total floor area of 15,177.1 m² (163,365 sq. ft.);
  • height is 62.9 m (206.3 ft.);
  • 168 market rental housing units;
  • 45 non-market rental housing units for seniors; and
